Hello, High School Life!
As we all know, March is the
month of Graduation and Commencement Exercises. Well, yesterday I attended one
and reminisced the time I graduated on my sixth grade. The time when I felt a
lot of emotions: sadness, anxiety,
happiness, excitement, etc. (or what others call “mixed emotions”)
Anyway, I will be on my last
year on my Junior High School this coming school year, so I think I could share
what the incoming freshmen should expect in their High School life and
what to prepare for.
1. Your bag will be lighter.
Though
you will have more books this time, and thicker books compared to your grade
school; well, you will learn to leave the ‘unnecessary’
books a.k.a those books which you don’t have to deal with at home. You can
either left it under your chair, on your classroom’s bookshelves, on your
locker (or your friend’s locker), or just somewhere over there (well, as long
as you know you could still see your book the next day, no matter where you put
it, it’s fine!)
2. You’ll love sneaking.
You’ll
learn how to sneak at almost everything.
You’ll sneak food inside your classroom
though you’re not allowed to eat during class hours.. You’ll learn how to secretly sleep during class hours due to lack of
sleep (we’ll get there later).. and
uhmm, You will learn how to cheat.. for survival purposes.
3. Procrastinate is now on your vocabulary.
Which
can lead to you, copying the notes from
your lectures from the past weeks at the last minute because your teacher will
check your notebooks. Beating the deadline
is not a thing anymore, what
matters is that you have passed something, what I mean is you will pass
something that is “okay na” or “pwede na” rather than not pass anything
because you worked on that project given from weeks ago, the day before
deadline.. Why? It’s because you’ve been busy doing other schoolworks or maybe
you just want to procrastinate. Idk. It depends upon the situation. And yup,
homeworks are not that at home anymore. You will do it at school by yourself or
if you get really lazy you will just ask your seatmate, “Uy, can I borrow your homework? Yung sa Trigo.”
4. Organizations = Happiness.
Any
type of org or clubs, though considered as “extra-curricular” activity which
doesn’t really affect your grades that much is more fun than the “academic”
stuff. You will have a lot of new experiences where you learn further and meet
different kinds of people. It’s a way of socializing and learning… FURTHER.
5. Adventure-seeking.
Due
to stress and pressure, you will seek for adventure and fun. You will hang-out
with your friends. Whether it be shopping, food tripping, road trips, amusement
parks, etc. Whatever it is, you will somehow forget the stress and pressure from
school even just for a while, or for a day.
6. First Times.
You
will experience a lot of first times. I tell you!! If you could write all of
the “first times” you had during your high school, you can fill one notebook or
more! On High School, you can have your first
love, first heartbreak, first failure on a test, etc.
7. Learn to make excuses.
I
will give you a scenario. So you spent the whole midnight coding for the Website-Making
for your Computer class and you arrived late at school. The thing is that you
arrived at the period of your strict teacher then you realized you have a
homework to pass to her and you forgot to do it… What will you do? Make an excuse, of course! (Let me know how you will deal with this.
Comment below!)
8. Lack of Sleep.
High School
is like the training ground for College(because they say when you’re in
College, you’ll have no sleep anymore though in my case, I experienced going to
school with no sleep for days because the projects’ deadlines are of the same
week). So be thankful if you’re still able to sleep 5-6 hours. Cherish every
sleep. I say to you.
9. Teamwork.
You will
learn the true meaning of this word here in high school. In every competition
or even trials that your class will face, this thing might or might not come
out. And yup, even during deadlines… “Uyy
pre, wala pa akong tulog. Pakopya naman sa Chemistry.”
Well these are some of the (kalokohan)
stuff you will encounter in your high school. I don’t want to share ALL OF IT
because it would be more fun to discover for yourself! (you might get bored
with high school if I tell you everything that will happen in it. Your parents
might blame me if you decided to not to go to school anymore HAHAHA jk) Anyway
what I told here is just pure kalokohan stuff which happen in high school. On
the serious note, though high school might be so stressful, it will probably be
the best (according to my older siblings, parents, older cousins, everyone who
is older than me whom I asked.. umm) part of your life! To face all of the
pressure it give, just believe in yourself. It is also not bad to get some
inspiration from your family, friends or from a special someone. Never lose
your faith, hope, trust and pixie dust. And stay eager to achieve your hopes
and dreams!
