Understanding Valentines' Day

Let me start this by stating Valentines’ Day in different ways and in different languages:

-    Hearts’ Day (this is how non-catholics call February 14, they don’t consider Valentines’ Day since it was originated from St. Valentine)
-    Arabic - Eid hob sa’eed, habibi (to a male), Eid hob sa’eed, habibti (to a female
-    Dutch - Fijne valentijnsdag
-    French - Bonne Saint Valentin
-    German - Happy Valentinstag
-    Hawaiian - Hau’oli La Aloha
-    Indonesian - Selamat Hari Kasih Sayang
-    Italian - Felice San Valentino
-    Japanese - Shiawasena Barentainde
-    Portuguese - Feliz Dia dos Namorados
-    Mandarin - Qingren jie kuaile
-    Spanish - Feliz dia de San Valentin
-    Swedish - Glad Alla hjartans dag
-    Thailand - Sook San Wan Valentine
-    Turkish - Sevgililer Günün Kutlu Olsun (to one person) and Sevgililer Gününüz Kutlu Olsun (to more than one person, or formal)

But how can I define it? Well for me, Valentines’ Day is a day of making your “someone special” feel really special. It’s the time of the year where you can surprise the people you love with gifts or greatest efforts so they will know how much important they are to you. But to be honest, there is no right time or a special day needed for you to give gifts or your greatest efforts to your loved ones. You should make every little moments that you share with your loved ones really special. Make them cherish all the moments they have with you. Every day should be a chance for you to make your loved ones feel their worth to you.

Also, I want to mention here that it is not just for couples. We have a misconception about Valentines’ day that it should be only celebrated by couples or those who are in a relationship. We’re all humans, and we’re made by love and made to love so we all deserve to celebrate it!

Don’t feel alone too if you will celebrate it alone because you’re not in a relationship, have your friends or your family with you. Cherish the Valentines’ day with them and make really sweet and unforgettable memories.
