Neglecting the Filipino Language

Note:  I made this for a Youth Forum in our school. This statement is not against anything or anyone, just pure observation and conclusion I made.I also researched for this article. I therefore wish that I will not offend any belief in this statement.

Filipinos nowadays are into social networking sites and through them, Filipinos express themselves faster and easier than expected.
Browsing through my timeline on Twitter & Facebook, reading stories and blogs created by Filipino teenagers on Wattpad and other blogspots makes me realize how teenagers of our generation use English more often than our own native language.
But if we are to observe further, English is not the only reason why Filipinos neglect our own language. KPOP, JPOP, Koreanovelas, Taiwanese dramas and animes are also hindrances of our generation in using the Filipino Language. Even though we wouldn’t understand what they say without the subtitles, we would still turn up the volume to 100% to make us feel more the scene we are watching or reading and the song we are listening to, the sad truth is that whenever we watch, read or hear works of Filipino Literature we would say that it’s either “jeje” or “corny”.
We may say it is smart-looking and very knowledgeable to be multilingual. We can’t also deny the fact that you will have greater opportunities when you are good in speaking in English but being masters and proud-bearers of our own language first is a far greater accomplishment that every Filipino Individual could ever achieve.
As quoted by many old Filipino citizens, “Mang-mang kung ituring ang mga Pilipinong hindi gumagamit ng sariling wika.” And as Jose Rizal quoted, “Ang di marunong magmahal sa sariling wika, daig pa ng malansang isda.”

Now, ask yourself.  Does speaking in Filipino makes someone look and sound “jeje” and “corny”?
